conservation and restoration of old musical instruments
Gesina Liedmeier has a broad range of experience with the conservation and restoration of viols. Her point of departure is always: respect for the original and the cultural tradition from which it stems. She's been carrying out conservation work for the musical instrument collection of the Municipal Museum (Gemeentemusem) in the Hague since 1998. Besides this she does conservation and restoration for institutions, and private commissions.
Old viols always need a lot of care and must be treated with the greatest care. Having been trained at the Haags Gemeentemuseum , Gesina avoids major interventions if possible and interventions which are irreversible. She always writes a detailed report of her findings and prefers not to camouflage her work.
